ABOUT

Welcome to our community at PTSD & Mental Health Support UK.

I’m Lee. I've been forced to retire from my career in the emergency services due to PTSD brought on by a number of traumas I experienced through my work. I struggle with depression, anxiety and a number of PTSD related issues.

I began my new journey with a simple vision: to create a supportive environment where individuals touched by depression, anxiety, PTSD / CPTSD, BPD, and other mental health issues could find companionship, understanding, and practical support.

This website serves as a bridge connecting us, facilitating shared experiences and growth; and pointing us towards trusted resources, information and support.

At the heart of my ethos is compassion and respect for the struggles each of us faces. I believe that through collective support and individual empowerment, healing is not just a possibility but a path we can all embark on.

Our community is designed to be a resource, a haven, and a place of progress.

Here, you’ll find resources, personal stories, expert insights, and direct access to mental health professionals—all aimed at fostering resilience and recovery.

I am absolutely committed to helping each member find their own pace and path in their mental health journey.

Join us as we push forward, together, towards a future where mental health is openly discussed, deeply understood, and compassionately addressed.

I am here for you, every step of the way.

Warmest wishes,

Lee

From Trauma to Community: My Journey with PTSD

I spent 20 years as a police officer, starting in frontline response before moving into a specialist support unit dealing with violent incidents, public order, and body recovery.

Over time, the relentless exposure to trauma took its toll—particularly after harrowing incidents like a major motorway crash with multiple fatalities and recovering burned remains from a vehicle accident.

Like many in high-pressure roles, I was conditioned to “man up and get on with it.” But PTSD crept in—short temper, anxiety, and struggles with everyday tasks became my reality. Crowds triggered panic attacks, and I would either shut down or dissociate completely. Support from the job was minimal—a handful of generic counselling sessions that barely scratched the surface.

Then came Rio. Thanks to Service Dogs UK, I was paired with my assistance dog, who transformed my life. Once a rescue dog bouncing between 11 homes, Rio now guides me out of overwhelming situations, wakes me from nightmares, and provides the emotional support I never got elsewhere.

Through my own struggles, I realised that mental health resources—especially in the UK—were lacking, fragmented, or too American-focused. I wanted to build a space where people with PTSD and other mental health conditions could not only seek help and share experiences but also receive real answers—the kind I struggled to find.

That’s how my community was born. It’s more than just a support group; it’s a safe, UK-based space where people can connect, learn, and heal—together. If I can be the source of support I once needed, that’s a true success.
